Growing up we hauled water. We had a light green van & large, clean trash cans were loaded in the back of the van and filled at various locations. Sometimes a friend\’s place or my Grandma’s house.
I also remember my Dad having an arrangement where we would get water from the neighbors, running a garden hose across the road to fill up bathtubs that held water for the animals.
We also had barrels under the gutters that would collect rainwater that was also used to wash dishes, water the garden and flush the toilet.
This focus on hauling water, worrying about having enough, being conservative with it was just a piece of the puzzle that we dealt with.
Years later, I still am very aware of water use, consumption and conservation. I\’m thankful daily for water that comes out of my tap with literally a twist of the handle. I will dump leftover water in my glass on my houseplants or take it to my potted plants outside. If I have to run the tap to get hot water, I will run the water into a bowl and take the water out to water plants.
Pure bliss is standing in a hot shower, letting the water wash away any difficult thoughts, garden dirt or worries of the day. Another is a hot bath, lavender scent & bubbles with a good book. I think I truly enjoy these more than most!
While I do appreciate my water on demand, there are times that there is an odor or taste that reminds me I am definitely on city water. Sometimes it smells chlorinated & really impacts my desire to drink it. I finally tried a product that surprisingly has made a huge difference in the taste of my water!
